The Hard Truth We Don’t Always Want to Hear

Have you ever caught yourself saying:

“I’ve tried everything and nothing works.”

“That programme didn’t help me.”

“I’ve joined so many courses but never seem to get anywhere.”

It’s something I hear quite often as a coach.

And if I’m honest, there have been times when I’ve taken that personally.

When a client tells me they’re not seeing the results they hoped for, part of me can immediately wonder:

Is my programme not good enough?

Could I be doing more?

Am I letting them down?

But over the years I’ve realised something important.

There is a difference between being responsible for someone’s results and being responsible to them.

My job is to provide the tools, support, guidance, accountability and encouragement.

Your job is to use them.

Neither side can do the other’s work.

Because here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Many of us keep repeating the same behaviours while hoping for different outcomes.

We say we want more energy, but continue surviving on biscuits and caffeine.

We say we want to feel stronger, but keep putting exercise at the bottom of the priority list.

We say we want less stress, but never create space to rest or recharge.

We invest in programmes, memberships, books and courses, expecting them to somehow create change on their own.

But information doesn’t create transformation.

Action does.

I’ve experienced this myself.

I’ve signed up for courses and programmes with the very best intentions.

Yet if I wasn’t fully committed, if I wasn’t prepared to show up consistently and do the work, my results reflected that.

Not because the programme was faulty.

Because I wasn’t fully engaged.

That realisation can feel uncomfortable.

But it’s also incredibly empowering.

Because if your lack of results isn’t entirely down to the programme, it means you have far more control than you think.

Instead of asking:

“Why isn’t this working?”

Try asking:

“How am I showing up?”

“What am I avoiding?”

“What excuses am I repeating?”

“What responsibility am I handing over to someone else?”

Those questions can change everything.

Because the women who create lasting change aren’t necessarily the most motivated or the most knowledgeable.

They’re the ones who take ownership.

They stop waiting for the perfect time.

They stop looking for the magic solution.

They become willing to do the small, often boring things consistently.

And that’s where real transformation happens.

So today, I’d love you to reflect on one simple question:

What are you not taking ownership of right now?

Not to judge yourself.

Not to make yourself feel guilty.

But to help you identify where your power truly lies.

Because once you take ownership, you can start creating change.

And that’s a very exciting place to be.
